Doddington Hall -Easypeasylemonsqueezy
This weekend I went *HOME* to see my family who live in South Yorkshire / Lincolnshire and. Mum and I were trying to decide, in-between baking, what we could do to treat ourselves for a couple of hours on a Sunday. A regular haunt of ours is Doddington Hall just outside Lincoln. Doddington Hall is, from the outside, an Elizabethan prodigy house or mansion. Complete with walled courtyards and a gabled gatehouse. Inside it was very largely updated in the 1760. Its simply stunning.
So what’s it like
But it also has some excellent opportunities for a little retail therapy and simply a lovely lunch!
When you arrive there is a great choice of fruit and veg and some lovely flower displays (you can either buy them or just take away the ideas 😉 ). There is a great Farm Shop, a gifts section with a table dedicated to Baking ahead of GBBO. Clearly I bought quite a few bits :-). There’s an Home interior shop and a fab Clothes Shop thrown in to boot, a really great little place to mooch around. We even (dare I say it) bought a few Christmas presents, yes!!!
Lunch
We always go to the Cafe for lunch. They also have a more formal restaurant which we haven’t been too but it looks nice. This time of year lots of people were eating outside. In the cafe you can get sandwiches, cakes, quiche, fish & chips etc and all the usual stuff! The quality is really good – we always have potato skins with caramelised onions. Yum and a coffee – simple pleasures.
While I was there I noticed loads of events going on and planned – stuff for kids over the holidays, craft work shops etc. It’s worth checking out if you’re local and if you’re travelling close by it’s well worth a coffee/lunch stop
Doddington Hall is also a venue for weddings/ parties etc – and what a venue I imagine it would be!
Anyway check them out www.doddingtonhall.com
P.S – it’s also *really* wonderful at Christmas to pick up those special bits …..
